SUTHERLAND HOUSE ACCOMMODATION
Included in the “150 best restaurants in the UK” by the
Sunday Telegraph August 2012The bedrooms at Sutherland House Hotel are unlike any other in Southwold. The house dates from 1450, and many of the original features are still visible, with pargetted ceilings (c 1660), beams, original foot wide elm floorboards (c1450), fireplaces, and a medieval window. All of this historic fabric contrasts with the contemporary furnishings, zoffany fabrics and design classics, such as Le Corbuisier Chaise Longues and Eileen Grey coffee tables.
Here you can sleep under the same ceiling as a past King of England, luxuriate in a six feet long double ended slipper bath set on a plinth in the middle of a beamed, floorboarded room or escape to the suite which occupies the top floor on the entire footprint of the old house. The Hotel is located on the high street of this delightful English seaside town, this means that during your entire stay you never need to get in your car again! There are many shops, boutiques and art galleries to visit. The harbour (where we get the majority of our fish), Southwold Pier and the seafront are all within easy walking distance.
Service is relaxed and informal, with a small family run team available to look after you. The quality of the food (we have been awarded two AA rosettes ) allied to the quality of the bedrooms makes it an ideal destination for a short break or mini holiday. We are proud to announce that we have received 5 Gold Stars from the AA in the Restaurant with Rooms category , this puts us in the top 10% of these properties in the country.

All rooms are non-smoking and have a hairdryer, 30" flat screen tv, ISDN line and telephone, Internet wireless access available, tea & coffee making facilities, and mini bar. Unfortunately due to the physical constraints of a medieval building, the stairs are steep, some of the ceilings are low (as people were shorter in the middle ages!) and some of the windows are small. We have had to work very closely with the conservation officer at Waveney district council to ensure that we keep the spirit of the Grade two star listed building as intact as possible, and are proud that we have kept the charm and beauty of this medieval building intact. We also only have one car parking space at the property and as such is allocated on a first come first served basis, otherwise the parking is on street parking.
I thought I would also take this opportunity to give you a heads up regarding our check in times. As we are small boutique restaurant with rooms, we do not have a full time reception desk and as such we are unfortunately unable to check in guests outside our restaurant opening times as no staff are present, obviously once you are here you can come and go at leisure as our guests have their own entrance. So please bear in mind when planning your arrival time that check in is from 1.00pm - 3.00 pm & again from 6.00pm -9pm, sorry for any inconvenience caused.
If for any reason your arrival will be different from that stated at the time of booking it is essential that let us know in advance on 01502 724544
PS As our restaurant is extremely popular, it is advisable to book a table in advance, as without a reservation we cannot guarantee you a table, please
also note that the restaurant is closed all day on a Monday apart from the summer holidays and bank holidays
